TSR Hobbies

TSR Hobbies was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye.

In 2011, a new company taking the name TSR was founded by Jayson Elliot, who co-founded the Roll for Initiative podcast. Elliot found that the TSR trademark had expired around 2004 so he registered it himself. He then decided to launch the new company. He started with the help of some alumni from the original TSR Hobbies, and family of Gary Gygax Sr. A magazine called Gygax Magazine. However the magazine was soone shutdown by Gail Gygax the widow of Gary Gygax Sr.

In June 2021, a new, separate TSR company was launched by a group including Ernie Gygax, Justin LaNasa and Stephen Dinehart. The company is based out of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; and also Wilmington North Carolina. Soon Stephen Dinehart left the company and Justin Lanasa claimed he left as he was the source of social media comments that were inflammatory. Lanasa hired then Michael Hovermale as his Chief PR Person, however due to issues Hovermale left TSR in early 2022. In the Fall of 2021 Lanasa filed a lawsuit under TSR Hobbies, the Dungeon Hobby Shop Museum and himself personally against Wizards of the Coast demanding the removal of the legacy statement, and claiming ownership of sever disputed Trademarks. {{Wizards of the Coast]] then counter sued, and that lawsuit is pending in Federal Court.

In the Spring of 2023 TSR Hobbies under Justin Lanasa filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, and as of the date of this entry it is pending.
