Non Player Character
NPC stands for Non Player Character, the NPC is basically any person or creature that the player’s run into and interact with during game play. The NPC can be the fat merchant haggling, or the evil wizard in a dark keep, it can be the vile Troll blocking a pathway. However also, it could be someone that the player’s may need to hire in order to complete a quest or adventure. At times the player’s will need the services of a Class that they do not have already in there adventuring party, such as a Healer or Thief, or they may need to hire a guide to show them to a location, either way this will be a NPC. The NPC is always played by the Game Master and the GM will act out and role play this NPC.
A suggestion also is that in the event that a party has a NPC and someone who is watching the game wants to play but cant play all the time, let the new guy or gal play the NPC, this will do two thing’s. First it will free the Game Master up for running the game, and also it will introduce role playing to someone new, and you never know they may like it and decide to play more. If a group of player’s want to hire an NPC then one thing that must be done is that payment must be negotiated. This could be in any form, and will be dealt with on a case by case basis, but some form’s of payment are as follows.
